President Donald Trump has announced that “all trade negotiations with Canada are hereby terminated.” the decision was a swift response to a Canadian ad.
The ad, sponsored by Ontario, featured a 1987 clip of Ronald Reagan warning against trade barriers. Trump blasted the ad as “fake” and “fraudulent.”
He accused Canada of “egregious behavior” and attempting to interfere with US supreme court hearings on his 35% tariffs on Canadian goods.
The ad has also been condemned by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation. They stated the “selective audio” “misrepresents” the full 1987 speech and was used without permission.
The halt in talks, confirmed by secretary of state Marco Rubio, puts the c$3.6 billion daily trade relationship in jeopardy. PM Mark Carney vowed to keep seeking dialogue.
