Plans for a US-Russia summit have changed, with officials now saying no meeting is imminent. This shift comes after a “productive” call on Monday between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

A US official, speaking anonymously, said Tuesday that after the call, an in-person meeting between the diplomats was “not necessary.” The official added, “there are no plans for President Trump to meet with President Putin in the immediate future.”

This contradicts President Trump’s post from last week, where he announced a Budapest summit “within two weeks.”

The Kremlin also stated Tuesday that there is “no precise timeframe” for a summit.

This reversal is the latest “abrupt shift” by Trump, who was also scheduled to meet Ukraine’s President Zelensky to discuss providing Tomahawk missiles.
