In an unexpected revelation, Dwayne Johnson has shared his attempt to join The Devil Wears Prada 2. The movie star disclosed to Entertainment Weekly that he actively campaigned for a role in the fashion sequel, even volunteering to wear size 15 heels. This unexpected admission highlights Johnson’s ambition to demonstrate his range beyond the blockbuster action films that established his fame.

Johnson’s pitch happened during his work on The Smashing Machine alongside Emily Blunt, a biographical drama about MMA fighter Mark Kerr. While Blunt balanced her work on both projects, Johnson saw an opening to express his interest in the fashion film. He described envisioning a character with fashion intelligence and inherent coolness, someone who would authentically fit within the franchise’s upscale aesthetic.

Blunt substantiated Johnson’s account, confirming he made a sincere attempt to join the production that reunites her with Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. The trio returns for the highly anticipated sequel, and Blunt engaged with Johnson’s proposal humorously and warmly. She complimented his hypothetical appearance in heels, maintaining the playful dynamic that characterizes their professional relationship.

Despite his efforts, Johnson ultimately wasn’t cast in the movie featuring the returning stars. However, Blunt maintained his connection through exclusive content from filming. She sent videos captured from her car before stepping onto New York City streets, where substantial crowds had assembled. Johnson described these scenes enthusiastically, noting they resembled the intensity typically associated with pop star public appearances.

Scheduled for theatrical release on May 1, 2026, The Devil Wears Prada 2 continues the story under David Frankel’s direction, adapted from Lauren Weisberger’s novels. The original film debuted at the LA Film Festival in 2006 and became a cultural touchstone. Though Johnson won’t join Streep, Hathaway, and Blunt in the sequel, his genuine interest reflects the franchise’s enduring ability to captivate audiences.
